Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)

Natural gas is a vital component of the world’s supply of energy. It is one of the cleanest, safest and most useful energy sources for fueling homes and industries.

To meet the growing worldwide demand for energy, a number of countries need to bring natural gas from overseas in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG). It is manufactured from raw natural gas that is chilled to –259 degrees Fahrenheit. This shrinks the gas to less than one-600th of its original volume, which makes long distance shipping feasible. The LNG is stored and transported at atmospheric pressure. This volume reduction permits cost-effective transportation of LNG over long distances.

For more than 50 years, LNG has been safely and securely shipped and used as a reliable fuel for a variety of purposes including electricity generation, heating and cooling homes, cooking food, and much more.
