Air quality
For decades, ConocoPhillips has been monitoring the air quality in and around many North Slope oil fields. ConocoPhillips' monitoring stations measure temperature, wind speed, wind direction and concentrations of carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, and ozone.
One of the monitoring stations has been in operation since 1999 in Nuiqsut, the village nearest our oil exploration and production operations. The results of the air monitoring are shared with the various North Slope communities, including Nuiqsut, and with state and federal regulatory agencies. The measurements show that the air quality of the North Slope, at all locations, is consistently better than national ambient air quality standards.
