To be considered for a ConocoPhillips U.S. charitable contribution, an organization must be:

  • Recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as an organization exempt from federal income taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity, or
  • A government subdivision (e.g., county, parish, state, municipality or its departments such as police and fire departments), or
  • A federally recognized tribe, or
  • An accredited school or an organization within an accredited school system. 

Organizations must not:

  • Be a church, mosque, temple, or other organization hosting religious worship, unless the organization is providing social services and/or addressing food scarcity for the community-at-large, and ConocoPhillips’ support is designated specifically for those purposes. 
  • Be a government agency or a political organization advancing political causes, candidates, events, legislative lobbying, or advocacy. 
  • Discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, gender identity or expression, genetic information or any other legally protected status.
  • Present any potential risk, or risk of being used to promote illegal activities, including the financing of terrorism.
  • Have been formed by or currently employ or financially benefit a ConocoPhillips employee, retiree or family member. 
  • The recipient of these funds must not be an individual.

When to apply

Charitable Investment applications for the following year’s funding consideration will be accepted annually from May 1 until July 31. Out-of-cycle applications are accepted, however, support may be limited due to timing and budget planning. 

What is required

Information required in the proposal will include an executive summary outlining the purpose of the program or project, details on how it will be accomplished, expected results, a budget (noting administrative expenses such as salaries and fees, program expenses and total income), and anticipated metrics and outcomes.

Proposals are evaluated based on alignment with ConocoPhillips Alaska’s Community Investment strategy, innovativeness, collaboration with other entities, proximity to ConocoPhillips Alaska's areas of operation, and employee and stakeholder engagement.

Impact Reports and IRS Contribution Acknowledgements associated with any previously approved grants must be completed. If reports are not complete, future contributions could be jeopardized.
